The Warrnambool Club is probably the oldest in town; it has operated since 1873, but only recently started serving meals. The beautiful building in Kepler Street is now completely refurbished, with a successful mix of old style and modern idea, and the restaurant is elegant but not intimidating, perfect for a business lunch but also for just a coffee and a cake with a friend.
The lunch menu, like every other restaurant and café in Warrnambool, is not particularly exciting, but at least you can notice some attempt to do a more intriguing menu. The result is OK in terms of flavours, but the different choices on the menu are somehow unbalanced: the trio of croquettes is well executed but the salad is dull and is more a snack size than a meal, good combination of flavours in the lamb sirloin, but again the portion are minuscule and there are no potatoes or rice to fill the stomach after having finished the lamb in 15 seconds.
Very limited the choice of wines by the glass, with only a Shiraz and a Merlot (quite insignificant) among the reds. Good service, though, even when the restaurant is full.
The final vote is positive, the food is good and the place is above the average, but I was expecting a little bit more for the price.
